High blood pressure, also called hypertension, affects almost half of adults worldwide, and can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD refers to conditions affecting the heart and blood flow to the heart.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure means your average systolic blood pressure reading is over 140 mmHg and your average diastolic reading is over 90 mmHg.
Although there are several treatment options available today, many people struggle to keep their blood pressure under control.
The study aims to find out if an investigational medication called zilebesiran (pronounced zile-BEE-siran) is safe to take and can lower the risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack in people who have high blood pressure and have, or have a risk for, cardiovascular disease (CVD).
